NORTMUN IV: a student leadership experience

With enthusiasm and pride, the fourth edition of NORTMUN, the school’s Model United Nations, was held on April 3 and 4, 2010. Gimnasio del Norte de Valledupar school.. This event brought together students from different regions of the country in a space for dialogue, leadership and critical thinking, where they assumed the role of delegates to discuss global issues and propose solutions from diplomacy and cooperation. During two intense days, NORTMUN IV reaffirmed its commitment to the formation of young leaders with international vision and transforming vocation.

This event, which has become a national benchmark in the training of young leaders, was attended by local and national delegations, as well as a board of directors committed to the high academic level of the model. From the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony, NORTMUN IV was a transforming experience for each of its attendees.

"This is a space where we promote and empower leadership, citizenship, culture and respect for others. That's what NORTMUN is for, that's what Gimnasio del Norte is for."

Throughout the model, students developed fundamental skills such as public speaking, formal writing, critical analysis, argumentation and diplomacy. They also learned how to build consensus, work in teams and design strategies to address challenges affecting local and global communities.

"NORTMUN allows us to develop key skills such as debating, public speaking and negotiation."

During the closing ceremony, the commitment, preparation and excellence of the delegates were recognized, as well as the impeccable work of the organizing team. The closing speeches recalled the importance of training students with a global vision and a vocation for transformation.

"I am very honored to have been invited to this edition of NORTMUN. NORTMUN is an experience that can help us not only grow as citizens and as individuals, but it is also an enriching experience to learn about global politics and diplomacy."

In addition to the debates and formal sessions, NORTMUN IV offered spaces for integration between delegations, promoting the creation of networks of friendship and collaboration between young people from different regions. This coexistence enriched the experience, strengthening the sense of community and demonstrating that the diversity of ideas and perspectives is key to building fairer and more inclusive solutions. Each moment experienced in the model left significant traces in the participants, who return to their schools with learning that transcends the classroom.

Throughout its editions, NORTMUN has demonstrated Gimnasio del Norte ‘s constant commitment to the formation of global leaders, standing out along with other schools in our network in scenarios of debate, diplomacy and citizenship building.
